Got in trouble at Half.com over it but sold it on Amazon right away and it wasn't about doing oneself in either. It was about tattoos and piercing...egads. I cringed when I looked at it but it went out the door and to the post office fast. I have one on boat-building that my friend Emily tried to get from me but lucky for you she forgot it.

On the Bonanzle site I have a few weird and wonderful things which were brought home from the coffee shop..and no not the mermaid, but if anyone would like her she is still $1000...:-)

Remember me when you are shopping for holiday gifts. A lot of the books are brand new, nice, beautiful and not available in Melrose, Keystone (gawd forbid) and for sure not Waldo and Stark..not at Wal-Mart and you might just have to really spend a lot drivin all over creation in Gainesville to find many of these books and books on disk.

Next post I will share what I did with my first social security check:-) You won't believe it...I don't think I did either until Walter and I were on the way home..Bless Walter. He is a great and patient guy. I think we are once again going to the Chambers POW WOW for Thanksgiving, if anyone else would like to join us. It is a wonderful time out in the middle of nowhere. No cell phones work:-) Let me know if you want to go along.

I like Amazon because of the amount of information they have on almost all books, plus reviews of many books. In addition they have photos of almost every book on earth.

Peege's Bookstore at Half.com  almost all books are here at Half and it is my preferred method of selling at the moment...easy interface and well, I confess, better fee structure. More books are listed here, about 300 at the moment.

IN the last two weeks I have added a number of books, many on crafts,  making jewelry, wood projects, even a book on How To Repair Your iPod. Some new gardening and plant books, history, business and several really wonderful new nature titles, on birds and butterflies. These are brand new books priced at half or less than half what you would normally pay. I lean toward nature, gardening and art, design so I have many of those types of books. But I am not limited by my own interests. I have books on war, guns and tarot, diet and lots of cookbooks. I carry books on a wide variety of topics. It's kind of fun, this business. I have read or at least skimmed through books on things I normally wouldn't look at. The book on piranhas comes to mind and the alligator stories, many of which are set right here in Florida. If you know me, a simple mention of an alligator will keep me out of the water for a month...except that time on my 59th birthday when a bunch of us were standing around in the water trying to top each other with alligator stories. Let me tell you, all you have to do is point out toward the middle of the lake and you have old ladies levitating:-) when you're doing that.

And I almost forgot about Bonanzle, a swell place that is like eBay used to be. Lots of community and friendly people, an easy way to sell your stuff and very low fees, in fact it costs you nothing to list items for sale. I have odd and unusual things there plus I am starting to add the new books in. I am good, today at least:-) It was hard to let go of the coffee shop but I had no choice, really....One little pit-bull from the health department and things weren't so simple any more. And the place was clean, always, it was plumbing they wanted, lots of expensive, silly plumbing. After failing to kill anyone for eight years in the history of the shop, they suddenly thought we needed lots of fancy sinks and such..If you go by, you can see the hotdog guy is not open yet and that could be me, with paper all over the windows and not allowed to sell nuthin.

I have begun writing, two books, one a nice funny little plant book and the other comes to me late at night and into the morning hours...a novel, hopefully it will be as popular as The Yearling...I laugh. And after I know what I am doing a little better I am going to write a small ebook about How To Sell Books Online...because everybody keeps asking me about it. It is really very simple to get started.

Also I have plans to create a real website and have all this book stuff in one place.

I am ok and really blessed to have a small house that most writers would kill for. Oh and Corky just turned 70. Isn't that peculiar? I have friends who are seventy years old and my father is 89, and he has a girlfriend. As some of my friends say..."it's that old the apple doesn't fall far from the tree" routine:-)

P.S.- The photo albums will return. They are undergoing technological advancement.

Check the book sales links regularly because I add new books all the time. This week I have many to add in and also have a big shipment of books on disk coming in this week..Just make them a *favorite* and check every week or so.

Tree Museum

In April of this year, about four months ago, the coffee shop closed in the physical sense.

I say physical because what it was, still exists in our minds and hearts. Corky said one time that the  coffee shop experience was like a sweet dream we had and now we have to wake up. It made me cry when she said that but for some reason I kind of like that explanation.

We can hold onto that sweet dream that all of us together created, starting with Cherie and her need for a good cup of coffee. She brought so many different people together and then left us in the prime of her life, not even hitting 50 before she was jettisoned off the planet, to where we do not know. I do know this life on earth is not all there is. There is more, more than we humans can even comprehend.

What we did at/in/around/with the coffee shop was a good thing.

It's not gone... that thing we created, our connections, our friends made, feelings shared, even the hard things were good. We grieved together, we sang, we shared stories, we shared ourselves, we healed, not just from losing our dear friend, but we healed some other things too in the course of it all.

We loved. We wept and laughed, sang and yes, we had some doozie arguments. But isn't that life? Life ain't always *just fine*.

The building itself and the other tenants were important and part of it all. TC and her dog grooming, appearing at the back door, wet and dripping from washing dog after dog...the Native American women burning sage and beating their drums, the ceramics woman (what's her name?) yelling at us for parking in front of her shop even though she was hardly ever open:-)Glenda and her sister selling antiques and always saying she was moving from the day she moved in, until she finally really did move.

Julie brought in a whole other slice of Melrose society with her NestFeathers shop. Wanda who wandered in for quiche and ended up renting the shop next door.

Even the building owners were a part of it. They were all wicked. If I win the lottery I will buy the building back. Oh no I won't. Not really. It was an experience, an adventure, life-changing for many people. Now we go on.

Remember the sweet times we had there. Remember the gardens...the reason for the title of this post. The bad man who now rents the space ripped out every single green growing thing which was on the patio. Even the concrete block planters themselves are gone. It is sickening to see what right-wing homophobes think is really cool... a naked bare spaced parking lot...Like the clear-cutting of our forests. Thanks to David Alexander for saving the statue right as the guy was ready to plow it down. It now resides at the Bellamy Road Art Gallery.

So many times people would stop me in the grocery store or the library and tell me how much they appreciated the garden out front. How they stopped on their way home and sat there at night, in the peace, the sweet loveliness of the odd conglomeration of plants surrounding the patio. My friend Rainy says I am like Johnny Appleseed, planting these gardens wherever I go. Someday I dream of having my own garden, on my own land, where I don't leave. I stay until I get jettisoned somewhere, somewhere I hope I run into Cherie, Hap, and my grandmother.

So, I am going to post all the pictures I have from the history of the shop. Over there on the righthand side are many and scroll down on the left side for several photo albums. More will be added. What Is It About Susan Boyle That Moves Us So much?

Yesterday in the coffee shop I insisted we watch Susan Boyle's performance via a UTube clip. The sound was not so great coming from this mini-computer and with the traffic noise well it was hard to experience the full effect of her performance. But still several people who were present shared their feelings about this common woman and her triumph and subsequent popularity. The fact is we identified with her....we *common* folk, here in the dumpy little coffee shop...and dumpy it is, I admit...funny and funky and weird and creative and perhaps a work of art, but still tacky and weird to some people who come in the door. I see people react.....this place scares some people.. It is too much for them. They are too used to sterile...like Taco Bell, McDonald's..They might not notice the employees at these places do not interact...no matter what anyone says to them....no eye contact, no small talk...but here in this ..let me see...what did they guy call this place the other day?...oh, a cubby-hole of a place...well in this cubby hole of a place, we actually talk to each other. Imagine that.

Anyway, Susan Boyle represents something to those of us who have been made fun of, shunned by the "popular" girls, ganged up on, made into the proverbial *underdog*.

I wept when I watched her performance.  One simple common woman from a small town who for one moment in time was not just the center of attention but who was fulfilling a lifelong dream, singing her heart out to a crowd who could not contain  themselves....leaping to their feet before she was half-way through.

And don't those of us who aren't so beautiful, not so in with the *in* crowd, not quite up to the standard of those mean, bitchy, pretty girls with....the right clothes, the right hairdo, the right partner or husband, the right politics, the right possessions...don't we GET IT? Don't we understand completely what Susan Boyle did and what she represents?

Third grade, seventh grade, high school.....college, the peace corps, group on to group, never finding that place where we fit in? Were accepted...just plain old accepted..a part of something which did not require us to completely sell-out or act as if we were someone else? Or contain ourselves?Yes, we get it and don't have to analyze or examine it..We felt her in our hearts.

Susan Boyle, we thank you. We thank you for your frizzy hair and your not so hip slick and cool outfit. We thank you for your big eyebrows and your chubby body..We thank you for being a star while not being perfect.

We thank you for standing for all of us ugly-ducklings and politically incorrectlings.

Thank you for standing up there with complete confidence and showing the people who are obsessed with external appearancees and property and material posessions, that real folks are appealingly wonderful.

Thanks for showing the snotty bitches of the world that the clothes they wear does not help make them attractive, that beauty is something wonderful and uncontainable and by-gosh, the common woman is pretty darned appealing to at last count about 12 million people who watched you on UTube...About eight of us here in Melrose, Florida.

Thanks Susan for bravely walking into that auditorium the other night and singing for all of us common, dorky girls, nerdy girls and all of us who also, have a dream.

Susan Boyle Shows Her Stuff

Joan Larkin rarely forewards anything. She has so many of her own magnificent words arranged brilliantly, she has no need to pass on the usual drivel of the internet. Today she passed this on to me and I imagine 100 of her closest friends. She and Susan Boyle made me cry this afternoon. I wept tears of a strange combination of deep ache and complete joy as I watched and listened to one beautiful woman in Britain sing. Susan Boyle...watch it here.
